CULTIVATING NEW HORIZONS FOR KIRU TEA FARMERS

The KTDA Foundation, in a determined move to enhance economic stability across its communities, held a crucial consultative meeting with the Board and Management of Kiru Tea Factory on the 7th of October 2025. This strategic session, conducted in collaboration with our valued partners TechnoServe, CASA, and SokoFresh, formally introduced a proposed avocado diversification project. The initiative is designed to address the volatility of the tea market head-on by creating robust, alternative income streams for our smallholder farmers, thereby lessening their over-reliance on a single crop.
The proposed plan was met with significant enthusiasm and full endorsement from the factory’s leadership. Senior Council Chege Kirundi, Chairman of Kiru Tea Factory and also the KTDA National Chairman, and his board, praised the initiative for its forward-thinking approach. They recognized the project as a critical driver for sustainable rural development, affirming that such diversification is essential to increase farmers’ disposable incomes and secure their financial resilience for the long term.
This collective commitment marks a powerful step in securing a more prosperous and sustainable future for our growers. The KTDA Foundation and its partners are now aligned with the Kiru Tea Factory leadership to lay the necessary groundwork for the project’s successful implementation. We remain dedicated to our core philosophy: putting the #FarmerFirst as we cultivate new opportunities and ensure our communities thrive.
