Kapkoros-Ndarwetta Community Spring Water Project

Status: Completed

Period: June 2019 – March 2021

Partners: Taylors of Harrogate and Ethical Tea Partnership

Factory: Kapkoros

Aim of the project

This project aims at building bathrooms for the community as a different structure to promote hygiene and pollution issues. The bathrooms will be modelled after similar existing water points bathrooms in the County. The intention is to reduce the incidences of downward stream water contamination when communities bathe and clean clothes along the stream as it is the norm. It is also environmentally friendly in reducing pollution. The showers are to be modelled in different spaces and not just next to the water collection points.

Impact of the project

  • 500 Community members can now access clean water.
  • The youths have been empowered through the project which is acting as an income-generating project for them, they wash cars and motorbikes for community members at a fee and they also supply water to nearby businesses.
  • The youth group have registered the group and plans are underway to empower them with business skills training through the youth fund office which is a government agency.
  • Livestock can access clean water without polluting the river
