Enhancing Livelihood Fund Project

Period: October 2019 – Dec 2021

Partners: ETP, Ford Foundation, Uniliver & Oxfam

Factories: Ogembo, Mataara, Chinga and Toror.

The objective of the project is to build climate resilience & income diversification for women’s livelihoods.

Impact

  • Over a million climate resilient clones have been planted by the 200 farmers and plucking of the new tea bushes has started after one and half years for most farmers in Ogembo (Kisii), Mataara (Kiambu), Chinga (Nyeri) and Toror (Kericho).
  • 200 farmers received each 4,000 litre tank to support other income generation projects.
  • 138,720 tea seedlings in 8 group and individual nurseries (this is at 95% survival rate). Additionally, the project supported each group in propagating an average of 17,000 tree seedlings.
  • The project also supported 8 groups come up with IGAs and created business proposals for an Agrovet Shop, Poshomill +packaging, poultry farming and pig farming and received funding to start them off as part of building their capacity for diversification to complement tea business.
