KTDA Foundation, KTDA Management Services and Toror Tea Factory on Friday 10th December 2021, held a graduation ceremony for 330 farmers who had completed training in the Holistic Economic Empowerment (HEE) Programme and the Climate Resilience for Women in Tea (CREW) programme. As part of graduation a number of income diversification projects for various groups were launched.
The farmers completed the HEE programme which included the following courses;
1. Social Dynamics
2. Financial Literacy
3. Entrepreneurship
This has been made possible by funding from KTDA MS, 69 Tea Factories and IDH Sustainable business.
For the Climate Resilience for Women in Tea (CREW) programme, the farmers were trained on Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), climate smart agriculture practices like establishment of fruit tree and tea nurseries and replacing old tea bushes with climate resilient and high yielding clones.
This programme has been funded through Enhancing Livelihood Fund (Unilever & Ford Foundation) with technical support from Ethical Tea Partnership and Oxfam UK. During the ceremony, the Head of Foundation also handed over a cheque for Income Generating Activities for the Enhancing Livelihood Fund project to Farmer Field Schools.
