Adopt-A-Tree Initiative

Status: Complete

Period: June 2018- May 2019

The overall aim of this project was to improve the awareness of school going children and their communities of the benefits of environmental conservation and tree protection by planting 5,600 fruit tree seedlings in partnership with 14 KTDA managed factories. The tree planting component was completed in May 2019 with 28 primary schools having planted over 6000 fruit trees.

Impact

  • The survival rate of the trees has been over 80 % due to the Adopt a Tree model and fruit trees which include Avocados, pixie oranges, apples, guavas are expected to mature in 2021 and will boost the nutrition component for the students
  • The project has seen 4 of the 7 KTDA regions replicate the model and a total of 51000 fruit trees were planted with schools.
  • The project facilitated 8 environmental conservation competitions with the participating schools that saw 240 students participate and raise awareness to their communities on practical environment conservation tips and how they can exercise these tips in their daily
