🌿STRENGTHENING FARMER PROSPERITY BEYOND TEA: KTDA FOUNDATION EXPANDS CASA AVOCADO DIVERSIFICATION TO MOMUL AND KAPKOROS🥑

In line with its unwavering commitment to enhance economic resilience across tea-growing communities under the #FarmerFirstMantra, the KTDA Foundation, under the leadership of General Manager, Mr. Sudi Matara, held pivotal consultative meetings with the Boards and Management of Momul Tea Factory on 11th November 2025 and Kapkoros Tea Factory on 12th November 2025. Conducted in collaboration with TechnoServe and SokoFresh, the sessions introduced the CASA Avocado Diversification Project — a strategic rollout under the Social Enterprise arm of KTDA Foundation. The initiative seeks to cushion farmers from tea market volatility by creating sustainable, climate-smart income streams, directly contributing to bridging the 70% living income gap faced by smallholder tea farmers.

The project received strong endorsement from both factories’ leadership. Mr. Isaiah Langat, Chairman of Momul Tea Factory, and Mr. Leonard Korir, Vice Chairman of Kapkoros Tea Factory, praised the initiative for its transformative vision and potential for long-term impact. They highlighted its role in strengthening sustainable rural development, enhancing farmers’ financial resilience, and stimulating new employment opportunities within their respective catchment areas. As part of their commitment, the factory boards pledged to allocate land for the establishment of certified avocado nurseries and solar-powered cooling and aggregation centers — essential infrastructure( Factory Based, Community Based Organizations) that will enable smallholder farmers to produce, store, bulk, and market avocados efficiently.

This shared commitment marks an important milestone in the Foundation’s mission to secure a more diversified and prosperous future for tea communities. The rollout in Momul and Kapkoros, alongside preparations in Kiru and Gacharage Tea Factories, positions the CASA Avocado initiative as a key driver of economic transformation. By integrating sustainable agriculture with market-driven solutions and climate-smart technologies, the KTDA Foundation and its partners continue to champion inclusive growth, farmer empowerment, and a future where tea-growing communities thrive beyond tea. 🌾🤝
